ADA Lockers

There are multiple types of metal lockers you can choose from at Shelving + Rack Systems, Inc. All styles can be adapted to follow the ADA guidelines.

You can choose between single-tier lockers, double-tier lockers, and triple-tier lockers, depending on how much floor space you have available. To save maximum space, consider duplex or box lockers.

All aspects of your facility, including lockers, must meet the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. You can choose any type of locker, but you’ll need to ensure that at least 5% of all your lockers meet the ADA requirements. If you have multiple types of lockers, at least one of each type must be accessible lockers.

For all lockers, the shelf and coat hooks cannot be more than 48 inches above the finished floor. You’ll also need to add an extra shelf to meet the reach requirements of the ADA. The shelf will ensure that the bottom of the locker is no lower than 15 inches above the finished floor, making it easier to reach.

If you have lockers with recessed handles, keep in mind that only those with multi-point latching allow for ADA compliance.

Lastly, you’ll need to ensure you have enough floor space, at least 30” x 48” for traffic clearance, to satisfy ADA requirements so that when opened, the locker door does not interfere.

Contact Shelving + Rack Systems, Inc. at 800-589-7225 to learn more about what type of lockers are most suitable for your company and how you can make them ADA compliant.
