Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors

Vertical reciprocating conveyors are a cost-effective, efficient, and safe solution for the transfer of goods between different levels in a retail, self-storage, distribution, or manufacturing facility.

They are especially useful in areas where low-frequency yet effective transfer is needed to and from mezzanines, balconies or other raised storage areas. Unlike inclined or declined power belt conveyors, they have a much smaller footprint, freeing up valuable floor space. They can be used to transfer full pallets of product or carts that are loaded or unloaded between levels.

Vertical reciprocating conveyors can transport your inventory or goods between two or more levels as your application requires.

Advantages of Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors

Vertical reciprocating conveyors are discontinuous conveyors that require the transfer of goods onto a platform or carrier which is then elevated by hydraulic or mechanical means to a higher level where the goods are again be transferred from the platform to the new level.

Vertical reciprocating conveyors offer the advantage over alternative solutions such as inclined power belt and spiral conveyors because they require a much smaller floorspace. Two conveyors can even be used to bridge a busy or congested area of a facility. They also have the advantage of transferring goods in an upright position, which is essential when goods must be placed flat, or are fragile or unstable.

Vertical reciprocating elevators also present advantages over forklifts and human labor. They are safer than these alternatives and do not require any special training.

Maintenance and operation arealso more cost-effective than with forklifts or traditional elevators, ascertain loads may be too large or bulky for forklifts.

Styles of Vertical Reciprocating Conveyor

Vertical reciprocating conveyors come in a variety of styles and models and can differ in their actuating mechanisms. Mechanical systems provide fast and continuous operation, whereas hydraulic systems offer a simpler and less expensive alternative.

There are reciprocating conveyors available thatutilize conveyors to put the productonto the platform and then utilizing the same conveyor, unloads once it reaches the next level. This option is generally used when linked withautomatic conveyor systems.

When choosing a vertical reciprocating conveyor, consideration should be taken to the specific needs of your facility. Consider the size, weight, and quantity of goods which are to be transferred, along with the environment in which they will be located.

Conveyors can be installed internally, externally or used through-floor, and different models allow for “C,” “Z” and 90° loading patterns. They are available in various sizes, speeds, and lifting capacities.

Vertical Reciprocating Conveyor Regulations

While Vertical reciprocating conveyors may appear more like industrial elevators than conveyors, they differ in that they travel vertically between floors only andare used for the transfer of materials exclusively. They are not designed for the transport of people and are governed by their own set of safety standards, the ASME B20.1 Safety Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment.
