Cantilever Racking

Cantilever Racking

Cantilever racking is a specialized storage option designed to hold bulky items. They are the preferred solution for facilities that deal with high volumes of heavy loads, like building material suppliers, plumbing supply warehouses, or lumber mills. The heavy-duty steel storage system is uniquely constructed with large capacity requirements that seamlessly store long or awkward materials, from PVC pipes to steel bars.

The standout feature of the cantilever rack is the lack of a front support beam, which allows forklifts and other mechanical picking equipment easy access to materials from the front of the unit.

Cantilever racking systems are a durable and safe solution, helping you make the most of the available floor and vertical storage space.

Heavy Duty Cantilever racks

Industrial cantilever racks are manufactured using heavy-gauge steel, ensuring they can meet the demands of everyday warehouse use. Cantilever rack inventory is dependent on forklift loading and retrieval, meaning it must be strong, reliable, and impact resistant.

Cantilever racks are typically made from roll form or structural steel. Your ideal choice depends on the types of product you store, available floor space, vertical space, and the material handling equipment in your facility.

Roll form cantilever rack systems

Many cantilever systems are manufactured from roll form steel. This type of steel is created using sheet metal. The sheet metal is fed through rollers at low temperatures, gradually becoming thinner and stronger. It is then compressed into the individual components that make up the cantilever rack system.

Certain materials create sturdier racks. For example, choosing stainless steel rather than aluminum sheets in the fabrication process leads to a stronger roll form rack with heavier load capabilities. While some roll form structures can support up to 30,000 lbs. in weight capacity, they are a popular material choice for medium or light-duty cantilever racks.

The key advantage of using this type of rack for light, awkward items is its versatility and adjustability. Compared to heavy-duty cantilever racking materials like structural steel, roll form equipment is typically easier to assemble and reconfigure. Most systems use boltless pin connectors for problem-free height adjustment of the arm level after installation.

Structural cantilever rack systems

Structural racks are manufactured from hot rolled C-channel structural steel. It is a type of carbon steel, giving it long-lasting strength and durability. The high-gauge hot steel construction ensures it is capable of supporting heavier loads than most roll form systems.

Heavy-duty structural cantilever racks are an efficient rack option for facilities with limited space. Structural steel is an excellent choice if you require solid lumber racks, pipe racks, or stable racking for construction materials.

The heavy-duty structural cantilever columns, spacing between uprights, and durable rack arms provide ample support and space for multi-dimensional products, like steel pipes, steel stock, and other heavy items.

How Cantilever Racks Work

Traditional storage structures, like selective pallet rack designs, use a combination of horizontal straight beams and vertical column uprights to create the rack structure. While this racking style is perfect for palletized inventory, it doesn’t work for bulky or odd-sized products.

Cantilever pallet racking systems are configured without front upright columns, allowing you to load long and unconventional types with ease. Forklifts can get extremely close to the racks, carefully loading inventory onto the arm lengths without obstruction.

Cantilever rack arms are uniquely designed to facilitate heavy-duty items. They are available in linear or inclined varieties. Inclined arms are an excellent option for rounded building products like piping. The tilted design helps prevent goods from sliding off the rails after an accidental impact. The arms can be adjusted using a pin connector mechanism.

We provide a wide range of adjustable cantilever arms. Our Series 2000 heavy-duty cantilever racking arm units are built for medium to heavy-duty use. The arms adjust in 3” increments over the full rack uprights. With arm capacities of up to 2,000 lbs., these are a great addition to an industrial warehouse.

You can create dual-sided cantilever racks by placing two units back to back. Depending on your warehouse layout, this can create additional floor space, providing easier access to products.

Different Types of Cantilever Racking

At Shelving + Rack Systems, Inc., we have a wide variety of cantilever racks for sale. Our most popular style racks include:

All-welded cantilever racks

Our all-welded racks are excellent starter bays for low-profile storage of steel bar stock, industrial tubing, piping, and other odd-sized products. The durable steel construction offers a solid frame, stable base, and durable arms, providing up to 1,500 lbs. of weight capacity per level.

With just 15” of vertical storage, this type of rack is a good choice for light storage. Perhaps a larger and more comprehensive system is needed if you’re in the market for commercial lumber storage racks.

Galvanized steel cantilever racks

Galvanized steel is the preferred storage rack material for harsh industrial environments. The galvanized coating makes it resistant to rust and corrosion, providing long-term durability for indoor or outdoor storage. Our premium-grade galvanized steel cantilever racks are also popular for freezer and cooler applications.

These structural steel units are perfect for storing lumber, pipes, steel, or oversized loads year-round. They are available single or double-sided. The arms adjust in 4” increments, ensuring you can adapt the storage height according to your needs.

Medium duty cantilever racks

Our Series 1000 medium-duty cantilever racks can support up to 16,200 lbs. across each set of arms. Their rugged build ensures they can stand up to years of rough use. If well maintained, these units can last several decades.

A key advantage of the Series 1000 range is the ease of installation. Each component slots together seamlessly and is secured using pin connectors. The arms adjust in 3” increments, accommodating facilities that process a high number of product SKUs.

Heavy-duty cantilever racks

Industrial warehouses and large-scale lumber facilities often require the heaviest-duty racking systems for reliable year-round storage. Our Series 2000 range offers the highest load capacities of any of our storage units. They are highly customizable, allowing you to choose from various beam lengths, brace types, and upright heights.

The arms are available from 12 to 48”, with the largest components supporting up to 33,600 lbs. We provide single and double-sided options, ensuring you can make the most of your available warehouse space.

Rack accessories

We stock a variety of pallet rack accessories, additional hardware, as well as replacement parts, and individual components. Some of the most popular rack accessories include:

  • Brace sets (diagonal and horizontal braces)
  • Cantilever rack add-on equipment (beams, arms, and uprights)
  • Pallet rack netting (prevents damage to products from accidental falls)
  • Variety of decking options (wire, steel, laminate, and particle board)
