Amazing Benefits of Stainless Steel Benches for Your Business

Stainless Steel Benches

Whether you manage a factory or warehouse, a catering business, or a restaurant, stainless steel benches can be a beneficial addition to your shop equipment. This material has several advantages in industrial and commercial settings compared with other materials. Discover the benefits of stainless steel benches and how you can incorporate them into your workplace.

Why Stainless Steel?

Durable, attractive, and food-safe, heavy-duty stainless steel is an iron alloy known for its strength, corrosion resistance, and modern styling. Stainless steel benches offer several benefits, including:

Increased strength

There are several stainless steel alloys, but the types used for industrial applications are prized for their extreme tensile, compressive, and yield strength. Since stainless steel benches are strong and durable, they can sustain heavy loads.

This is especially advantageous for applications requiring the placement or storage of heavy castings, machine and automotive parts, and metal stock.

Durable construction

Stainless steel is known for its corrosion resistance, which derives from a minimum chromium content of 10.5%. This prevents the iron in the steel from rusting, allowing the material to maintain its structural integrity and strength in various environments.

Stainless steel is an excellent choice if you need a heavy-duty, solid top bench for product assembly, material handling, or other high-volume use activities that require wear resistance.

Easy to clean

Cleaning work surfaces is critical in medical settings, clean rooms, and kitchens. Stainless steel is easier to clean than many other materials, allowing you to maintain cleanliness standards in commercial kitchens and industrial workspaces.

Dirt, grime, and chemical residues don’t adhere as well to a stainless steel workbench, so you can scrub these contaminants away using general household cleaning products. This is also why stainless steel appliances are popular in household and commercial kitchens.

However, avoid scrubbing stainless steel benches with steel wool or abrasive sponges. This can scratch the finish, creating tiny grooves that allow bacteria to grow.

Heat resistance

Unlike wood and plastic materials, stainless steel is resistant to heat and has a high melting point between 2,500 and 2,800 °F. This resistance allows you to perform high-temperature work-related activities without worrying about causing damage to the work surface.

It also benefits chefs and line cooks because you can place cookware directly on the bench after heating it on the stove or in the oven.

Modern appearance

In addition to practical function, stainless steels have a modern, stylish appearance. Sometimes you want to select furniture, in part, because it’s cosmetically attractive.
Stainless steel can display an aesthetically pleasing luster and modern style to complement newer fixtures in a commercial kitchen or workshop.

You can choose a matte or brushed finish for a more industrial style. A polished finish, on the other hand, is more decorative.

Increased longevity

Due to its strength, durability, and resistance to rust, stainless steel products last for years, especially compared to wood, plastic, and other materials. This type of material makes them an excellent long-term investment. It can be more expensive than other types of steel initially, but its long-term utility can more than offset the upfront cost.

Environmentally friendly

According to a 2015 Yale study, 85% of stainless steel is recycled, becoming either new stainless steel or contributing to the production of carbon steels. As a result, the production and use of stainless steel products are environmentally friendly, reducing material waste.

Stainless Steel Workbench Features

A workbench made from quality materials, such as industrial stainless steel, is a long-term investment; therefore, you should ensure that the one you purchase fulfills your requirements optimally.

Steel gauge

When choosing to buy a stainless steel workbench, it’s essential to determine the gauge of the steel before you place your order. A heavier gauge can offer increased abrasion, impact, and wear resistance for harsh, high-volume use.

Bench size

The depth and length of your stainless steel workbench determine the work surface size available to you. Before ordering a workbench for your business, you should always measure the product dimensions against the floor space and layout to determine the best size and fit.

Adjustable height

You should choose a stainless steel kitchen bench with an adjustable height. If you’re sourcing steel work tables or benches for a warehouse or machine shop, you have a limited amount of space to use efficiently.

An adjustable height table allows you to make the most economical use of the space available to you. If your workers find that the standard bench height is not adequate for their needs, you can customize it accordingly. Adjustable height tables create a more ergonomic workplace, improving worker safety and increasing productivity.

Floor mounting anchor points

Depending on the weight capacity, some workbenches have stainless steel foot plates that allow you to anchor the bench to the floor. Floor mounting increases lateral stability, especially under heavy loads. Some models also feature adjustable feet for level positioning.

Workbenches With Stainless Steel Tops

At Shelving + Rack Systems, Inc., we offer several stainless steel workbenches and tables with a stainless steel benchtop. If you’re looking for a workbench that provides some of the benefits of stainless steel construction, consider this design by BenchPro.

Roosevelt Series — 1,500 lb. capacity

The Roosevelt series is simple to assemble and features heavy-duty 13-gauge stainless steel legs. With a 1,500 lb. weight capacity, this workbench is suitable for light- and medium-duty applications.

This workbench also features adjustable height so that you can set the work surface to between 30 and 36”. For extra storage, you can also order this workbench with a 16-gauge steel bottom shelf, a lower bin shelf with dividers, and a heavy-duty drawer that slides on ball bearings.

Kennedy Series — 6,600 lb. capacity

The excellent-quality Kennedy series, also manufactured by ProBench, can support more than 6,600 lbs. when you need increased weight capacity. The legs are 2” steel tubular legs to which the manufacturer welds ¼” steel plates. These act as reinforcements under the benchtop.

The work surface is also height adjustable, from 30 to 36”, the same as the Roosevelt series. This workbench is also easy to assemble; you only have to tighten one bolt per leg. If you need wide benches, the stainless steel benchtop has a maximum length of 117”.

The work surface is 304-grade stainless steel laid on a 1⅛” particleboard base. At 18-gauge thickness, this tabletop is durable and heavy-duty corrosion-resistant. For better workplace ergonomics, it is available with various adjustable height mechanisms, including manual crank or hydraulic lift.

Stainless Steel Benches in Commercial Kitchens

A quality stainless steel benchtop for the kitchen is an excellent addition to commercial kitchens for food preparation. Compared with a traditional wood workbench, a metal bench offers superior long-term durability.

High-quality wood benches have their strengths; they can be sturdy and cosmetically attractive. However, they don’t stand up to a metal bench when it comes to long-term durability.

Wood is susceptible to insect damage and accelerated wear, especially when wet. Water damage is hard to repair, and maintenance is more time-consuming and difficult. Wood and other materials with porous surfaces can harbor bacteria and allow them to grow.

Stainless steels are resistant to corrosion and easy to disinfect. The result is a material well suited to restaurant, supermarket, and mobile catering environments.

SS Series Stainless Steel Worktables

The SS Series Stainless Steel Worktables are designed explicitly for work environments that need to remain sanitary, such as kitchens and food manufacturing facilities. The bench is crafted from T-304 stainless steel with a galvanized steel undershelf for additional storage.

The frames include 1” adjustable height bullet feet, and the top bench is constructed with four roll-rim edges and bull-nose corners for added safety in fast-paced workplaces.

Stainless Steel Bench Accessories

Workbench Accessories

An industrial workbench is highly customizable, and you can incorporate several accessories to maximize utility. These include heavy-duty drawers and shelves that you can attach to increase your workstation’s storage capacity.

Whether above or below the top of the table, cabinets and shelving units provide additional storage space, allowing you to keep small tools, cleaning supplies, user manuals, and miscellaneous equipment accessible.

Mobile Workbenches

A stainless steel grade mobile bench provides increased maneuverability compared with stationary options. Another handy accessory is a caster wheel kit. Caster wheels consist of a fork-shaped assembly and a rubber wheel that attaches to the bottom of the workbench. Sometimes the caster has a swivel joint that allows it to rotate, increasing maneuverability, especially on uneven floors.

Using casters allows you to turn your heavy workbench into a mobile unit, relocating it as needed. In fast-paced and continuously changing work environments, a fixed workbench or table doesn’t offer the same degree of flexibility.

With lockable casters, you can immobilize the workbench once you arrive in a particular location and need the bench to remain in one place for an extended period.
